Florida State baseball’s strong finish to the season was apparently enough to grab it a national seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. On Monday morning, the Seminoles were awarded the No. 7 overall seed, meaning they will host the Super Regional round if they advance, in addition to the Regional.

Samford (36-24), Oklahoma (36-23), and Mississippi State (31-25) were be the three teams paired with FSU for the Tallahassee Regional.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed. While their overall record might not be as impressive, they boast key series victories over national seeds Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Florida. They will face off against Oklahoma in the first game.

ingOklahoma was chosen for the No. 3 seed after reachn the Big 12 Tournament championship. While the Sooners fell to Baylor in the title game, the Sooners were able to compile a good record in a tough conference.

Samford earned an automatic bid after winning the Southern Conference Tournament title on Sunday. It is the No. 4 seed and will be Florida State’s first opponent.

The Tallahassee Regional might be one of the toughest in the entire tournament. Mississippi State’s series victories are eye popping, while Oklahoma’s performance in the Big 12 makes it a formidable foe. The only “weak” link is Samford, who will need to fight its way through a regional crowded with quality teams. Florida State certainly has its work cut out for it.

Florida State’s tough draw extends to the potential Super Regional match-up as well. The Seminoles were paired with ACC opponent Clemson, who split their four match-ups this season. Clemson won the regular season series, but fell to FSU in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Regional play will begin at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday. The format is double-elimination and tickets for the regional go on sale at 3 p.m. EST Monday.
