The Daily Nole Poll: Laborn Will Be First to Score First TD

We decided to start a new segment on Wednesday, where we poll our Twitter followers with a question pertaining to Florida State athletics.

In the first installment on Wednesday, we asked which FSU football player would be the first to score his first career touchdown during the 2018 season. It was close, but the results are in with running back Khalan Laborn edging out wide receiver Tamorrion Terry:

The fact that this one was close comes as no surprise as the two redshirt freshmen were the two most impressive skill players during last month’s spring game. Those two players accounted for three of the game’s six touchdowns.

Laborn led all rushers with 140 yards on 13 carries and a pair of scores, including an electrifying 91-yard touchdown run. Terry’s 129 yards led all receivers. He also scored a touchdown.

Junior wide receiver Keith Gavin received 13 percent of the vote. Gavin actually threw a touchdown to running back Jacques Patrick during the spring game.

Gavin has come close, but hasn’t yet found the end zone. He had a 66-yard kickoff return in the 2016 Orange Bowl win over Michigan that nearly went for a score, but instead set up the game-winner. Against Wake Forest last season, Gavin also had an 81-yard return.

Gavin looked like he might get his first touchdown in last season’s 42-13 Independence Bowl win over Southern Mississippi, but couldn’t hold onto a throw to the end zone. 3 percent of the vote went for “Other”, but no one specified. A couple of potential candidates could be running backs Zaquandre White and Amir Rasul, wide receiver George Campbell, tight end Tre’ McKitty or one of five incoming freshmen at wide receiver.

Here’s a look at the newest poll:

Results will be published on Friday.
