The Daily Nole — April 2, 2018: FSU Softball’s ACC Win Streak Hits 35

Lead Story

For a while, it looked in danger on Sunday, but Florida State softball’s ACC winning streak has hit 35 games, following a sweep of Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

FSU trailed 3-2 entering the sixth inning on Sunday before breaking through with nine runs in the frame in an 11-3 win. After Carsyn Gordon doubled to tie the game up, Sydney Sherrill doubled her home to put the Seminoles ahead for good. Gordon added a 2-run double in the inning as did Zoe Casas while Korina Rosario came through with a 2-run single.

The Yellow Jackets managed just two hits on the day, but one was a 2-run blast in the first inning off the bat of Katie Krzus. Gordon finished with three hits and four RBIs. Casas was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

With the win, FSU improved to 29-6 and 9-0 in ACC play. Meghan King worked four shutout innings of relief to earn the victory. Up next for the Seminoles is a doubleheader with Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

Between the Lines

FSU softball played in the only Seminole athletic event on Easter Sunday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

Villanova and Michigan will play for the national championship on Monday night.

Notre Dame topped Mississippi State to win the women’s college basketball championship on Sunday night, 61-58.

FSU moved up one spot to No. 4 in the Baseball America Poll. FSU rose from No. 7 to sixth in the D1Baseball.com Poll. The Seminoles remained No. 9 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The Seminoles fell from fifth to sixth in the NCBWA Poll.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports.
