The Daily Nole — March 1, 2018: Thomas Named Finalist for Miller Award

Lead Story

One day after being named first-team All-ACC, Florida State women’s basketball forward Shakayla Thomas was named a finalist for another prestigious honor.

Thomas, a senior from Alabama, was named among five finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award. The award annually goes to the nation’s top small forward. For the season, Thomas is averaging better than 17 points and nearly seven rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field.

Other finalists were Gabby Williams of Connecticut, Missouri’s Sophie Cunningham , Jaime Nared of Tennessee and West Virginia’s Teana Muldrow. Go to Hoop Hall Awards’ website to vote for Thomas. The winner will be announced during the Women’s Final Four in Columbus on March 30.

Between the Lines

FSU basketball was defeated at Clemson on Wednesday night, 76-63.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

News and Notes

FSU women’s hoops will play the winner of Thursday’s ACC Tournament game between Wake Forest and Miami on Friday.

FSU basketball is currently 10th in the ACC standings.
