FSU Scholarship Count Update: Patrick Stays, Two Commit

Monday was the final day to declare for the NFL Draft and for Florida State, there were no more surprises like with defensive end Jalen Wilkerson.

Last week, running back Jacques Patrick announced his intentions to return for a senior year and over the weekend, 4-star tight end Camren McDonald pledged his services to the Seminoles. On Monday, 3-star tackle Jalen Goss committed to FSU. Including commitments, that puts FSU’s scholarship count at 81.

Of course, there is likely to be further attrition before the start of 2018, but assuming that doesn’t happen, FSU has a capacity to sign 16 players this class. A number in the low 20s is much more realistic.

The only two players listed as conceivable departures are wide receivers Da’Vante Phillips and Malique Jackson. Phillips has been suspended indefinitely since prior to the 2017 season. Jackson was a senior this past season, but is eligible for a redshirt after not appearing in a game.
