Nole Legends Give Back Through Camps, Spreading Knowledge

After a successful first year with three camps, Nole Legends is expanding its reach in an effort to give back for the new year.

The nonprofit consists of a trio of accomplished Florida State wide receivers in E.G. Green, Andre Cooper and Kez McCorvey. Last year, Nole Legends help camps in the Panhandle, Tallahassee and Orlando.

“We love football, we love kids and we love coaching,” said Green, co-founder of the nonprofit. “We wanted to find a way to do all three. We just wanted to find a way to give back to the community.”

In addition to the three previous locations, the group will add seven others this year. They are Jacksonville, Tampa, Naples/Fort Myers, Treasure Coast, Macon/Atlanta, Gainesville and one undetermined South Florida location.

“Nole Legends is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing positive guidance to student-athletes through mentorship, confidence building, and leadership development while utilizing sports as a platform,” Katie Evrett, social media director for Nole Legends, said in an email. “At Nole Legends Football Camp, our desire is to pair Florida State University alumni student-athletes with high school student-athletes while providing unique synergy to exchange experiences and achievements in an organic manner.”

Each camp is for two days and for ages 8-17. Last year, about 50 participants attended each camp. For now, the camp is a wide receivers camp, but Green hopes to eventually see it spread to all other positions.

“Eventually, we hope to get even more guys involved,” Green said. “We’ll hopefully have some guest appearances from other former Florida State players. We’ll probably begin with the skill positions and then eventually get to the offensive and defensive line. That would be great for the kids.”

For now, dates are only set for the Tallahassee (June 22 and 23), Fort Walton Beach (June 29 and 30) and Orlando (July 6 and 7) camps. Green said he plans on holding two camps in March, two in April and three each in June and July. The cost for the camps, which conclude with a meal, is $99.

“For us, it’s a tool for giving back,” Green said. “We’re able to interact with kids who may want to go to Florida State and this is essentially Florida State coming to them. We wanted the parents to enjoy it and see the value as well. To give the knowledge and experience we have is unique.”

The name Nole Legends seems fitting. The trio of McCorvey, Green and Cooper all rank in the top 20 all-time at FSU in receiving yards and all are in the top 12 in receptions and the top 19 in touchdown catches. In 1995, Green and Cooper became the first duo in FSU history to finish with 1,000 yards receiving in the same season.

“At the end of the day, we want to have guys we see possibly play at Florida State and we want to be ambassadors for the program,” Green said. “Our goal is to open up the avenues. We’d like to eventually have 10 to 15 former FSU guys, which would be big.”
