The usual attrition at the end of the season has started to take place for Florida State and there could still be more to come. For head coach Willie Taggart trying to compile a first recruiting class, knowing scholarship counts would be helpful.
This week, tight end Ryan Izzo announced his intentions to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft and defensive end Josh Sweat made it official after it was reported that he would do likewise. With those two officially gone as well as safety Derwin James and a number of seniors, FSU currently sits with 82 scholarship players when 2018 commitments are included.
Seven of those 10 commitments have signed and there are other players who still have decisions to make about the NFL. Aside from those, expect several others to leave the program for various reasons. When we look at the “Conceivable Departures” category, we’re focused strictly on those who are weighing NFL decisions or already facing outstanding disciplinary action.
Expect about six to 10 more players to leave either for the draft or various other reasons. If that happens, FSU would be able to sign between 18 and 23 total prospects for the 2018 cycle.
