The Daily Nole — Jan. 1, 2018: FSU Women Rout UNC to Open ACC Play

Happy New Year, Florida State fans. As you ring in the new year, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s hoops opened ACC play in resounding fashion on Sunday as the Seminoles blasted North Carolina, 103-65.

Imani Wright finished with 33 points, setting a school-record with eight made 3-pointers in the process for FSU. Shakayla Thomas added 22 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Nicki Ekhomu chipped in with 19 points and Nausia Woolfolk scored 13.

As a team, the Seminoles shot 10-for-20 from downtown while North Carolina was just 1-for-13. The Tar Heels were also crushed on the glass, 47-22. Paris Kea and Janelle Bailey each scored 17 for North Carolina in the loss.

With the win, FSU improves to 13-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference. It will visit Clemson on Thursday.

Between the Lines

FSU’s women’s hoops game was the only scheduled FSU athletic event for Sunday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU basketball remained No. 24 in this week’s AP Poll. The USA Today Coaches Poll will be released later.

David Kelly is the latest assistant to be joining Willie Taggart’s staff at Florida State.
