TALLAHASSEE — Despite initial reports that Florida State’s 77-6 win over Delaware State should not count toward the Seminoles’ bowl eligibility, the victory will indeed count, the university stated in a Friday night release.

After initially appearing on Reddit’s college football subreddit, r/CFB, reports circulated throughout the week indicating that FCS school Delaware State did not use the required 90 percent of scholarship grants-in-aid, thus declaring FSU’s 77-6 win on Nov. 18 would not count for bowl-eligibility.

According to an FSU release, those reports neglected to account for a long-standing NCAA rules interpretation that permits institutions (Delaware State) to use academic scholarships and other forms of non-athletics institutional aid received by student-athletes in the computation of this requirement. The reports, according to FSU, represent incomplete information and only reflect athletics scholarships received.

FSU also stated that it has received confirmation from Delaware State that the 90 percent requirement is satisfied for the 2017 season, meaning that the win will count towards bowl-eligibility.

The Seminoles depart on Saturday for Shreveport, where they will face Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl. The teams will face off at 1:30 p.m. EST on Dec. 27.
