Report: Dawsey Out as FSU WRs Coach

Thursday night brought unexpected news about the Florida State coaching staff. Warchant.com is reporting that Lawrence Dawsey will no longer be the wide receivers coach, but that he is still interested in remaining with the team.

Dawsey played wide receiver for the Seminoles from 1987-90, garnering All-American honors his senior year. After a decent NFL career, Dawsey came to Florida State as a wide receivers coach in 2007, and stayed with that position throughout the Jimbo Fisher era.

Fisher’s departure brought speculation as to Dawsey’s future. Commentators in the past couple of years pointed out the lack of draft success from Florida State’s wide receivers, and the poor recruiting results in Tampa — his assigned area. New head coach Willie Taggart did not immediately let him go as part of his hiring. If the Warchant report is true, Dawsey hopes to remain with the team in some capacity.

This is the fourth coaching change since Taggart’s hiring. The prior three were the hiring of Raymond Woodie, Donte Pimpleton, and Telly Lockette.
