It’s Thursday, Florida State fans and that means the weekend is almost here. As you get ready to start watching bowl games, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Willie Taggart has made his first hire as Florida State head coach. According to reports, that guy is Telly Lockette.

Lockette has served as the running backs coach at Oregon State over the last two years, but was Taggart’s running backs coach at South Florida for two years prior to that. Taggart gave Lockette his start at the college level after Lockette coached at Miami Central High School.

At Miami Central, Lockette coached future FSU running backs Devonta Freeman and Dalvin Cook. He is expected to coach running backs and to be a force on the recruiting trail in South Florida. Lockette was also responsible for bringing 2016 America Athletic Conference Player of the Year Quinton Flowers to USF.

News and Notes

Nine FSU scholarship players are set to graduate this weekend.

FSU soccer sophomore forward Deyna Castellanos was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Best XI first team, while freshman Gloriana Villalobos was selected to the Freshman Best XI second team.
