It’s game day, Florida State fans. For the latest in FSU athletics, keep it here as we update the news and notes section of this post throughout the day.

Lead Story

After a second Elite Eight trip in three years last season, it’s no surprise that Florida State’s women’s basketball team is ranked to open the year.

Earlier this week, FSU found itself ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll. About a week prior to that, the Seminoles were ranked 18th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

FSU finished 26-7 a season ago and with a loss to South Carolina in the Elite Eight. The Seminoles lose key players in Leticia Romero, Brittany Brown and Ivey Slaughter, but return leading scorer Shakayla Thomas and Chatrice White while bringing in talented TCU transfer, A.J. Alix. FSU opens the regular season on Nov. 10 against North Florida.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s tennis continued the ITA National Fall Championships on Friday. FSU softball played an intrasquad scrimmage and scrimmaged Northwest Florida State College.
