Florida State’s match-up with Louisiana-Monroe has officially been canceled, the university announced late Thursday night. In addition to the football game, FSU has canceled all athletic events for the upcoming weekend due to the threat of severe weather from Hurricane Irma.

The contest will not be rescheduled.

The game was canceled at the discretion of Florida Governor Rick Scott, who made the decision to close all public K-12 schools, state colleges, state universities and state offices in preparation for the Category 5 storm.

The contest is the sixth college football game to be canceled or postponed due to Irma, which is set to make landfall in Florida early Sunday morning.

Florida State will be closed Friday through Monday.

The game, which would have been true freshman James Blackman’s first career start at quarterback, was moved to a 12 p.m. EST kickoff after originally being scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Blackman’s first taste of college football will now come at home against rival Miami on Sept. 16.

Other canceled athletic events are FSU’s soccer match at Florida and volleyball match against Tennessee, each scheduled for Friday. Saturday’s volleyball contest against Arizona is also called off. It appears that FSU men’s golf will participate in the Doc Gimmler Invitational in New York, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks for the update. Was really looking forward to seeing Blackman in action before a big rivalry game. It is better to be safe than sorry.

This is really showing why there needs to be an open weekend prior to the start of conference championships so make up games can be scheduled. It isn’t really fair when some teams play less games than other teams.

I think we should set up some sort of online checkers tournament between the two teams.
