Staff “Predictions” for FSU-Louisiana Monroe

Do not be alarmed for Florida State football: the game against Louisiana -Monroe is not going to happen. Hurricane Irma has successfully forced the state of Florida to stop all games this week, which is actually a sign of the incoming apocalypse. Please remember to be safe during serious situations like this one.

That being said, we at The Daily Nole are unable to accept this reality. We have all this great content prepared that will now never see the light of day. We will give a sneak peak however. Before the game was officially cancelled, we got together and gave our predictions. This is the result of that discussion.

Clint Eiland, Lead Writer: Much to the shock of everyone inside Doak Campbell Stadium, the hurricane force winds arrive a day early. Some say they’ve never seen anything like it. Papers, food, equipment, people flying everywhere in mass chaos. The ACC officials decide to pause the game in the middle of the 1st quarter, but due to reasons unknown, make the call that it is indeed safe to play on. Florida State’s day starts out as a nightmare however. James Blackman and his 6-5, 185-pound frame are tossed around by the storm conditions, prompting a quick 12-0 ULM lead after six consecutive safeties. Blackman doesn’t even intend them, he just gets the ball and gets carried back by a gust of wind. The defense holds the Warhawks to 0.0 yards per play however. Both teams head into the locker room in shock.

While there, head coach Jimbo Fisher has a revelation. It is time to break out the flexbone offense. Fisher uses his auctioneer speed talk to explain the complexities of the offense within 20 minutes. With Cam Akers at quarterback and three other running backs beside him, the Seminoles come out roaring in the third quarter. 500 combined rushing yards later, and they’re up 42-12 by the time the fourth quarter rolls around. The eye of Hurricane Irma arrives and both teams decide they should probably just kneel the ball and get the hell out of dodge. Florida State gains a valuable tune-up victory and ULM collects a pretty fat check.

Mike Ferguson, Editor: I have the Seminoles winning 120-3, but I can’t decide if the FSU scoring would have come on 40 Ricky Aguayo field goals or 20 James Blackman touchdown passes and 20 blocked Aguayo PATs. I also really felt like this was the week where Cam Akers would eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark. He’s only 970 shy. Logan Tyler also puts his punting woes behind him as he averages 78 yards per punt on two boots. It turns out that he has been right-footed this whole time. One thing worth noting is Chip Ferguson will be the last Florida State true freshman to start at quarterback for another eight days.

Josh Mixon, Contributor: 75-0, FSU. Man, ULM got off easy. James Blackman goes 30-for-31 passing for 482 yards, throwing for two touchdowns while running for another two. FSU’s defense holds ULM to below 100 yards of total offense and Derwin James grabs two interceptions – one of which is a pick-6. Blackman is done early in the third, paving the way for J.J. Cosentino to announce his presence to the college football world. Fisher allows previous fan-favorite Jeff Bowden to call the shots in the second half, so Cosentino throws for 250 yards and three scores, two of which go to Cam Akers out of the backfield. Jimbo Fisher is a bit less ecstatic about the win as FSU fans are, as he now faces scrutiny from the fan base for refusing to re-hire Bowden. He also now has a very real quarterback battle on his hands — a battle we all know Cosentino will win.

Edwin Collins, Digital Content Manager: FSU wins this one, 2-0. FSU was determined to make a point that its defense was the best in the nation. Every time FSU drove the ball, it would get to the ULM 5 yard line and take a knee, not once trying to put the ball in the end zone and continually giving ULM 95 yards to score. It resulted in a safety and 87 yards of total offense for ULM. Blackman ended the day with 230 yards passing and Akers had 140 yards on the ground.

These predictions are intentionally outrageous and were made after the game was cancelled.
