What most Florida State fans feared has become reality.

According to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU quarterback Deondre Francois will miss the remainder of the 2017 with a patella tendon injury in his left knee. The injury came on a sack in the final half of the fourth quarter of the Seminoles’ 24-7 season-opening loss to Alabama on Saturday night.

After being named ACC Rookie of the Year as a redshirt freshman in 2016, Francois was 19-for-33 passing on Saturday night with 210 yards, a touchdown toss and two second-half interceptions. Francois could apply for a medical redshirt and sixth year of eligibility, but it is unlikely that he will stay at FSU for another three years.

With Francois done for the year, head coach Jimbo Fisher has tabbed true freshman James Blackman as the starter. Blackman will likely become the first true freshman quarterback to start a game for the Seminoles since Chip Ferguson in the 1985 Gator Bowl.

Aside from Francois and Blackman, redshirt junior J.J. Cosentino and freshman Bailey Hockman are the only two other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. FSU will play its home opener on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe.
