The Daily Nole — May 25, 2017: FSU Dominates Athlon’s Preseason All-ACC Team

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As the holiday weekend approaches, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Athlon Sports released its preseason All-ACC team on Wednesday and Florida State was more represented than any other school in the conference with 12 players.

Earning first-team honors from the publication were cornerback Tarvarus McFadden and Derwin James. The second-team members for Florida State were numerous as the list included quarterback Deondre Francois, running backs Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick, receiver Nyqwan Murray, defensive end Josh Sweat and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi.

Most publications only list two or three teams, but Athlon typically lists four. Guard Landon Dickerson, defensive end Brian Burns and linebacker Matthew Thomas all made the third team. Guard Cole Minshew garnered fourth-team honors.

Between the Lines

In the NCAA Men’s Singles Tennis Championships, Aziz Dougaz was defeated in straight sets by Texas’ Yuya Ito. At the ACC Tournament, FSU baseball defeated Notre Dame in 12 innings on a walk-off home run by Jackson Lueck, 5-3.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

News and Notes

FSU’s Matilda Castren and Morgane Metraux were each named All-Americans by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

FSU’s season-opener against Alabama in Atlanta on Sept. 2 and ACC opener against Miami on Sept. 16 will both air on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.

FSU softball outfielder Morgan Klaevemann has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

FSU men’s hoops will face Oklahoma State in this year’s Orange Bowl Classic, per a report.
