Florida has dominated Florida State of late on the gridiron. April Fools, Florida State fans. We’ll keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics on this April Fool’s Day by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

In a recent article by Athlon Sports that ranked the nation’s top 130 quarterbacks, Florida State’s Deondre Francois was inside the top 15.

Francois narrowly missed making the top 10, coming in at No. 13. Among ACC quarterbacks, only Louisville quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson ranked higher.

After winning ACC Rookie of the Year, many are interested to see what Francois can do for an encore. Last season, he passed for 3,350 yards and accounted for 25 total touchdowns, leading a 10-3 finish and Orange Bowl victory for the Seminoles. FSU plays its spring game next Saturday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf finished Friday tied for fourth place at the Clemson Invitational. The FSU track and field team competed in the Stanford Invitational. The FSU beach volleyball team defeated Miami 5-0 and Florida International, 3-2. FSU women’s tennis topped Boston College, 5-2 while the men’s team fell at Duke by the same score. FSU softball defeated Pittsburgh, 14-3. FSU baseball fell to North Carolina, 3-1.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will continue the Clemson Invitational. FSU beach volleyball remains in Miami to take on UCLA, Arizona State and New Orleans. FSU softball hosts Pittsburgh. FSU’s baseball series with North Carolina resumes at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Florida State will host Northern Illinois in 2018. The Huskies will receive at least $1.6 million.

FSU has received rings for defeating Michigan in the Orange Bowl.

Amari Gainer, a 4-star linebacker, will be visiting Florida State on Saturday.

Former FSU infielder Stephen Cardullo will be part of the Colorado Rockies’ opening day roster.

Florida State was one out away from a no-hitter on Saturday, but instead lost to North Carolina in 11 innings, 5-2.

Florida State shortstop Taylor Walls has been suspended for a violation of school rules, head coach Mike Martin said on Saturday night.
