Weather shortened a 3-game series that was supposed to last three days to two. Rather than conclude the series on Sunday, Florida State and Notre Dame opened the set with a doubleheader on Friday. The result was two FSU victories in South Bend.

After taking down the Fighting Irish 8-2 in the first game on Friday, the Seminoles needed 13 innings to win the second. After the teams traded runs in the 12th, FSU scored five runs in the 13th in an 8-3 victory. After a misplayed ball in left field off the bat of Jackson Lueck resulted in the go-ahead run for FSU, Tyler Daughtry blasted a 3-run home run to put the exclamation point on the sweep.

The Good: On a day where resting the bullpen was key, both teams got quality efforts from their starting pitchers. Cole Sands and Tyler Holton each lasted at least six innings for FSU while Brandon Bielak and Michael Hearne each combined to throw 12 innings for Notre Dame.

The Bad: Without the help of Notre Dame, the second game still might be going on. Throughout the night cap, it didn’t seem like Florida State was ever able to get the big hit up until Daughtry’s bomb.

The Ugly: The Notre Dame defense on Friday night was downright atrocious. Over the two games, Notre Dame committed four total errors. Two of FSU’s first three runs in the second game came on a passed ball and a wild pitch before the Seminoles went ahead for good on a misplay in the outfield.

Studs of the Day: Both Florida State starting pitchers get this nod, but so does junior Dylan Busby. Over the two games, Busby was 6-for-12 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. In two games, J.C. Flowers was 5-for-7 for FSU with a run scored and an RBI. Drew Carlton worked 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for FSU in the night cap. Daniel Jung was 5-for-8 on the day for Notre Dame with a pair of RBIs.

Duds of the Day: Outfielder Jake Shepski was just 1-for-10 on the day for Notre Dame with four strikeouts. Eric Feliz was 0-for-3 at the plate for Notre Dame and had the critical error that allowed FSU to go ahead for good.
