It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. Before you go back to work on Monday, we’ll do our best to update you on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s 2016-17 basketball season may have ended in embarrassing fashion on Saturday, but the Seminoles aren’t looking for a new man to captain the ship. According to a report from Warchant, FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton will receive a 2-year extension that will run through the 2019-20 season.

The 2009 and 2012 ACC Coach of the Year, Hamilton guided the team to a school-record 24 regular season wins this past year, a No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. FSU’s season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 91-66 loss to Xavier as the Seminoles will finish one win shy of tying a school-record for victories in a season.

Though not always popular with the fan base, Hamilton is the winngest coach in FSU history. In 15 seasons, Hamilton has guided the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament five times.

UPDATE: Warchant managing editor Ira Schoffel said Sunday that there was miscommunication between he and FSU athletic director Stan Wilcox. Hamilton has not been given a new extension.
