Florida State handed UCF (11-2) its first home loss of the season on Tuesday night, 5-2. The Seminoles (10-2) scratched across three runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and never looked back. Alec Byrd picked up the victory for FSU and Drew Carlton registered his second 2-inning save of the season.

The Good: The Seminoles’ offense continues to produce runs, led by Quincy Nieporte’s three RBIs and Rhett Aplin’s 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Florida State’s offense was able to cruise with nine hits in Orlando.

The Bad: Five runs on nine hits is nothing to be upset about, but FSU had the opportunity to blow this game open on several occasions. The Noles left eight runners on base over the last five innings of action. With conference play approaching this weekend against Boston College, you would like to see the Seminoles clean up on the base paths a little more.

The Ugly: Entering the contest, UCF was undefeated at home and had seven guys hitting .350 and above. The Knights were only able to muster up two hits — one in the third inning and another in the fourth. UCF was held hitless over the final five innings of play.

Studs of the Game: Rhett Aplin has one of the best swings in the country and he’s showing it. Aplin is hitting .387 on the season and is leading the team with five doubles. The Seminole State College transfer is hitting .461 over his last four games with three doubles, and five runs scored.

Duds of the Game: Chris Williams dropped to 0-2 on the season. Williams gave up seven hits over five innings of work to the Seminoles. FSU was able to plate five runs, four of which were earned off of the redshirt sophomore.

Extra Innings: Andrew Karp got the starting nod on Tuesday, but was pulled after throwing just 64 pitches over the span of four innings. Karp is a guy FSU wants in the weekend rotation, but with the schedule, head coach Mike Martin has not been able to make a move. Karp’s early exit may be a sign that he will toe the rubber again on Sunday against Boston College.
