The Florida State Seminoles are now 2-0 following games where they registered just one hit. The Seminoles’ (3-2) offense exploded for a season-high 16 runs on Friday night against Samford (2-2) while FSU starter Cole Sands improved to 2-0 on the young season. In his Friday night debut, the sophomore went five innings, giving up just three hits, two earned runs, and sat down six Bulldogs on strikes in a 16-3 victory.

The Good: The Florida State bats rebounded nicely after being 1-hit on Tuesday night. The Seminoles scattered 15 hits around Dick Howser Stadium, plating 16 runs. Rhett Alpin hit his second home run of the season, while Dylan Busby and J.C. Flowers each hit their first of the 2017 season. Alpin and Busby combined to go 6-for-8 with eight RBIs and two home runs. Flowers’ blast was the first of his career.

The Bad: The Samford Bulldogs’ pitching staff had a rough Friday night. Seven different arms combined to give up 14 earned runs, walk 12 Noles, and throw 186 pitches.

The Ugly: T.J. Dixon and Kevin Williams Jr. went a combined 5-for-7, but the rest of the Bulldogs did not have the same success, going a combined 1-for-23. Williams had himself a multi-home run night, but as a whole, Samford struggled heavily at the dish.

Stud of the Game: Rhett Aplin’s transition from junior college baseball to the Division I level has been a smooth one. Aplin went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four runs batted in to go along with his second home run as a Seminole.

Duds of the Game: Samford sophomore starter Jesse McCord got hit hard from the first inning. FSU tagged McCord for eight hits and eight earned runs in just three innings of action. The 6-2 righty threw 75 pitches while striking out three Seminoles and balked once.
