Florida State’s ace will be moved to the back end of the bullpen, according to a release.

Drew Carlton, a junior right-hander and the team’s Opening Day starter, will assume the role as closer for Florida State this weekend as the Seminoles host Samford for three games, beginning on Friday.

The move comes after a blown save by Jim Voyles on Tuesday night in a 4-2 loss to South Florida. The Seminoles let a 2-0 lead entering the ninth inning slip away as six FSU hurlers combined to allow four runs on just one hit in the top of the inning.

Taking Carlton’s place in the weekend rotation will be freshman left-hander Drew Parrish. Parrish, who has allowed a run on one hit in 1.1 innings pitched this season, will start either the series opener with Samford on Friday or the series finale on Sunday.

The other two weekend starters for FSU will remain Cole Sands and Tyler Holton. According to a release, Sands will start either Friday or Saturday. Holton will start the following day.

The Seminoles will face the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. EST on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All games will air on ACC Network Extra.
