Florida State’s dream of a fifth straight College Cup appearance died in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon.

Haylee Cacciacarne’s header in the 87th minute lifted Utah to a 2-1 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. FSU looked to have tied it two minutes later, but the goal was negated by an offside penalty.

Utah’s Natalie Vukic opened the scoring with a rebound off a corner kick 14 minutes, but it took the Seminoles only about four minutes to answer. Macayla Edwards found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to knot the score at one apiece.

From there, the teams played great defense with each goalkeeper making key saves. Cassie Miller finished with three stops for the Seminoles. July Mathias had seven for the Utes.

FSU concludes the season with a 14-4-4 record. Utah moves on to face either USC or Texas A&M.
