Florida State will begin the volleyball season as the No. 17 team in the country. That’s where the Seminoles were at the release of the preseason AVCA Division I Coaches Poll on Wednesday.

Topping the poll was Nebraska who received 60 of a possible 64 first-place votes. Texas was No. 2, followed by Minnesota, Wisconsin and Kansas. Texas received three first-place votes while the other went to 11th-ranked Stanford.

Despite being picked by the ACC coaches to finish second in the conference earlier this month, FSU was the highest ranked ACC team in the preseason. North Carolina, who was chosen to win the ACC by the conference’s coaches, came in at No. 19.

Last year’s conference champion Louisville was the only other ACC team ranked in the poll, at No. 23. Rival Florida sits at No. 10. Florida bounced FSU from the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

FSU will play its intrasquad Garnet and Gold match on Aug. 20 before opening the regular season on Aug. 27 at UCF. The Seminoles will play their first home match against Baylor on Sept. 8 in the Tallahassee Seminole Tournament.
