The Daily Nole — May 18, 2018: FSU Beach Duo Named All-Americans

Lead Story

A Florida State beach volleyball duo has been named All-Americans, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The combination of Vanessa Freire and Tory Parangua earned that distinction on Thursday. That pair helped the Seminoles reach the national championship dual this season where they eventually fell to UCLA, 3-1.

On Court 1 this season, the pair went 18-6. Both are among only six players in FSU’s brief beach volleyball history to earn 100 career wins.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis advanced to the Elite Eight with a 4-3 win over Tulsa on Thursday. FSU baseball topped NC State in 11 innings on a walk-off home run by Steven Wells, 4-3.

On the Agenda

FSU softball opens the NCAA Tournament against Jacksonville State on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU women’s golf begins the NCAA Championships in Stillwater. FSU baseball hosts NC State at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU baseball defeated NC State on Friday night, 6-3, on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning by Reese Albert.

FSU football will take on Samford at 7:20 p.m. EST on Sept. 8 and visit Syracuse at noon EST on Sept. 15.

FSU softball defeated Jacksonville State 8-0 on Friday to begin the NCAA Tournament.
