The Daily Nole — May 19, 2018: FSU Women’s Golf in the Mix at NCAA Championships

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans and a big one at that. As you settle in for a big day in FSU athletics, keep it here for the latest. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After one day of the NCAA Championships, Florida State women’s golf is close to where it wants to be.

Through one round in Stillwater, the Seminoles are in a 3-way tie for seventh place with Arizona and Louisville at +13. USC leads overall at +3. All 24 teams will play three rounds with the top 15 to advance to a fourth and then the top 8 to advance to match play.

Individually, Morgane Metraux leads the Seminoles at -2 — good for a fourth-place tie. Her sister Kim Metraux is tied for 19th at +1. Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho is the overall leader at -7, which is three strokes better than Northwestern’s Janet Mao.

The action is Stillwater resumes on Saturday.

Between the Lines

In addition to women’s golf, FSU softball defeated Jacksonville State on Friday to open the NCAA Tournament, 8-0. FSU baseball used a 3-run home run from Reese Albert in the 10th inning to knock off NC State, 6-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to women’s golf, FSU softball will face Auburn in the Tallahassee Regional at noon EST on ESPN3. FSU baseball wraps up a 3-game series with NC State at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU women’s tennis takes on No. 1 Vanderbilt in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament at 4 p.m. EST.

News and Notes

FSU baseball was defeated by NC State in the regular season finale on Saturday, 5-3.

FSU softball defeated Auburn 2-1 in eight innings on Saturday on an inside-the-park home run from Carsyn Gordon in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.

Vanderbilt defeated FSU women’s tennis in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
