The Daily Nole — May 27, 2017: FSU Men’s Golf Tied for 14th at NCAA Championships

The holiday weekend has finally arrived, Florida State fans. Before you sit back, relax and enjoy a big day of FSU athletics, keep it here for the latest. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After one day of play at the NCAA Championships, Florida State’s men’s golf team is in the mix. The Seminoles finished their first round of play, but 15 of the 30 teams competing in Illinois had play suspended by darkness.

As it sits, FSU is currently tied for 14th place at +1 with Texas and Pepperdine. Vanderbilt is the current leader at the championships at -8. After three rounds, the top 15 teams will get to play the fourth round. From there, the top eight will advance to match play.

Individually, Cristobal Del Solar was the top performer for FSU. Del Solar currently sits at -1. Ole Miss’ Braden Thornberry is the overall leader through one day at -6.

Play will resume Saturday at 7:30 a.m. EST. FSU is set to tee off just before 1:30 p.m.

Between the Lines

In addition to golf, FSU baseball defeated Louisville 6-2 to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. FSU softball moved to within one game of the Women’s College World Series by taking down LSU in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional, 3-1.

On the Agenda

Aside from golf, FSU track and field will compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries in Lexington. FSU baseball will face Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals at noon EST on Raycom Sports Network. FSU softball faces LSU in the second game of the Tallahassee Super Regional. That contest begins at 3 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN.

News and Notes

FSU’s baseball contest with Duke was moved up from 1 p.m. EST to noon EST.

5-star defensive end Micah Parsons announced his top nine schools on Friday and FSU made the cut. Also making the cut were Penn State, Florida, Ohio State, Alabama, Miami, Nebraska, Michigan and Georgia.

FSU baseball advanced to a third straight ACC title game by beating Duke 5-1 in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Saturday.

LSU defeated FSU softball on Saturday to force a decisive game of the Tallahassee Super Regional, 1-0.
