The Daily Nole — Feb. 25, 2017: Two Noles Win ACC Gold

It’s the weekend, Florida State and as usual, there’s a lot going on in FSU athletics. We’ll keep you up on the latest. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Day 2 of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in South Bend on Friday saw two Florida State athletes win ACC gold medals.

Lithuanian born junior Jogaile Petrokaite claimed ACC gold in the long jump, connecting on a pair of season-long jumps, according to a release. A personal best of 6.38 meters allowed her to capture the conference crown.

In the high jump, Italian freshman Eleonora Omoregie also claimed ACC gold by clearing an FSU record jump of 1.88 meters. This, after Omoregie had missed previous jumps of 1.82 meters.

The ACC Championships will resume on Saturday.

Between the Lines

In addition to track and field, the FSU swimming and diving team competed in the UF Invite in Gainesville on Friday. FSU baseball scored a season-high 16 runs in a victory over Samford. FSU men’s tennis defeated Pepperdine, 4-1. FSU softball improved to 2-1 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 6-4 win over San Diego State.

On the Agenda

In addition to the ACC Championships resuming, FSU’s men’s basketball team will visit Clemson in a contest that begins at noon EST on Saturday and airs on the ACC Network. FSU will again host Samford in baseball. That contest begins at 1 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra. FSU softball will continue the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic against Arizona.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes’ runner with 1:17 to play lifted FSU to a 76-74 win over Clemson on Saturday.

Behind seven shutout innings from Tyler Holton, Florida State defeated Samford on Saturday, 8-0.

The nation’s top athlete, Justin Watkins has flipped from FSU to Texas.
