Just more than two weeks separate us from the first athletic event of the new year for Florida State. In the meantime, FSU football fans will have to watch some former Seminoles play professionally and hopefully see some future Noles make their pledges.

TOAFILI TO COMMIT
Florida State could add a second running back to its 2020 class in a matter of weeks on Wednesday night as Lawrance Toafili is set to make his commitment.

FSU is currently the favorite to land the 4-star Pinellas Park prospect. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Toafili is the No. 165 overall prospect for 2020 and the 13th-best running back.

In addition to the Seminoles, Toafili is considering offers from Auburn, Florida and Michigan. For those in the Tampa Bay area, Toafili will make his commitment live at 10:30 p.m. EST on Bay News 9, which is only available on Spectrum.

After not landing a skill player in 2019, the Seminoles got the commitment of top-100 prospect and running back Jaylan Knighton on July 30. FSU is currently ranked 11th per the Composite team rankings, but would jump rivals Florida and Miami and Texas A&M to move up to No. 8 should Toafili pledge his services.

NFL NOLES MAKE PRESEASON DEBUTS
While FSU fans patiently await Aug. 31 when the Seminoles face Boise State in Jacksonville, a number of former Florida State players will play their first games since donning the garnet and gold this week in NFL preseason action.

First-round pick and former FSU defensive end Brian Burns will make his NFL debut for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night when they take on the Chicago Bears. FSU’s only other pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas, will make his debut for the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.

Also making his NFL debut on Thursday night will be former defensive tackle Fred Jones. An undrafted free agent, Jones signed with the Detroit Lions who will host the defending world champion New England Patriots. The lone former FSU offensive player making his debut will be lineman Derrick Kelly for the New Orleans Saints against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday evening.
