Lead Story

The first meeting of the season between Florida State softball and rival Florida on Wednesday night in Gainesville went the way of the Seminoles, 2-0.

FSU redshirt senior pitcher Meghan King picked up the win in the top-10 match-up, going the distance and allowing just six hits while walking none and striking out eight. All-American Kelly Barnhill took the loss for Florida.

The Seminoles got on the board early by manufacturing a run on a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Mason in the first inning. Makinzy Herzog would add some insurance with a solo home run in the fourth. Sydney Sherrill had two of the four FSU hits in the victory.

Between the Lines

FSU’s softball victory was the only scheduled athletic event for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

News and Notes

FSU sophomore sprinter Ka’Tia Seymour has been selected as the ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week.

College baseball’s award for the nation’s best catcher will be renamed in honor of Buster Posey.

FSU defensive end Xavier Peters has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

Game times for FSU baseball games with Clemson on April 13 and Wake Forest on April 27 have been moved up from 6 p.m. to 2 p.m.
