The Daily Nole — Jan. 22, 2021: FSU Women Take Down Clemson in Double OT

Florida State women’s hoops was unable to hold a 10-point fourth-quarter lead on Thursday night, but the Seminoles persevered to take down Clemson at the Donald L. Tucker Center in double overtime, 95-86.

FSU led 59-49 after three quarters, but the Tigers shot 11-for-19 during the final period and 3-for-4 from deep to force overtime. Morgan Jones paced FSU with a career-high 36 points and gave the Seminoles the lead with a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left in the extra period, but Delicia Washington answered to tie the game for Clemson before missing a chance to win it at the buzzer.

Tied 82-82 at the end of overtime, FSU scored the first 10 points of the double overtime period. The Tigers missed their first seven shots in the second overtime before Washington added a couple of baskets. She led the Tigers with 33 points in the loss.

In addition to big nights from Jones and Washington, FSU’s Bianca Jackson and Sammie Puisis along with Clemson’s Gabby Elliott all added 18 points. FSU improved to 5-2 with the win and 4-2 in ACC play. The Seminoles will visit Georgia Tech on Sunday.

FSU’s women’s hoops contest was the lone scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s tennis will host South Alabama on Friday. The FSU women will take on Georgia or Clemson.

News and Notes

FSU baseball unveiled its full 2021 schedule on Thursday. The Seminoles open at home against North Florida on Feb. 19.

FSU softball unveiled its full 2021 schedule. It will open at home against Florida A&M on Feb. 11.

FSU football’s spring game is set for April 10.
