Saturday Seminole Summary: 259 FSU Athletes Make ACC Academic Honor Roll, Slate Set for FSU Hoops in Emerald Coast Classic

An outstanding year for Florida State that culminated in a second straight top-10 Directors’ Cup finish also came with a number of accolades in the classroom.

For the third straight year, more than 250 FSU athletes made the ACC Academic Honor Roll. The 259 for the 2018-19 athletic year is the second most in school history. All members of FSU women’s golf made the team.

Making the list for the fourth time was FSU volleyball’s Christina Ambrose, Brooke Kuhlman and Brianne Burkert, FSU cross country’s Mackenzie Baysinger, Fatema Jaffer, Jessica Lonas, Melissa Zyla and Sarah Candiano, FSU football’s Ken Burham and Fred Jones, FSU softball’s Tessa Daniels and Abby Evans, FSU soccer’s Macayla Edwards and Kaycie Tillman, FSU track and field’s Madison Harris, Shauna Helps, Mandy Lewis, Brandon Tirado and Kayla Maczuga, FSU beach volleyball’s Macy Jerger and FSU swimming and diving’s Leila Johnston, Daniella Van Den Berg, John Vann and Natalie Purnell.

FSU hoops has long known it would participate in the Emerald Coast Classic in November, but now, it knows who it will play. The Seminoles will host on-campus games against Chattanooga on Nov. 20 and against Chicago State on Nov. 25 before making the short trek to Niceville for the Emerald Coast Classic third round against Tennessee on Nov. 29.

The Seminoles are 3-5 all-time against the Volunteers with three of those contests going into overtime. The teams haven’t met since January 1989. FSU will play again on Nov. 30 against either Virginia Commonwealth or Purdue.

Another date set for FSU this coming season is Nov. 10 as the Seminoles will be in Gainesville to take on rival Florida. FSU has won five straight in the series.

FSU beach volleyball’s Madison Fitzpatrick and Alaina Chacon were named first-team All-Americans by DiG Collegiate Beach Volleyball.

Former FSU swimmer Tayla Lovemore won gold in the 50-meter and 100-meter butterfly at the World University Games.

FSU football will holds its Fan Day on Aug. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. EST at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

FSU women’s golf junior Amanda Doherty and freshman Puk Lyng Thomsen were named Academic All-Americans by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

FSU hoops’ contest with Florida will take place on Nov. 10 in Gainesville.

FSU defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and cornerback Stanford Samuels III were named All-Americans by College Football News.

Former FSU women’s hoops forward Natasha Howard, now a member of the Seattle Storm, will start the WNBA All-Star Game on July 27.

FSU women’s hoops has unveiled its non-conference schedule for the 2019-20 season.

FSU football participated in “Lift for Life” on Saturday.
