Blackman Shines as Gold Tops Garnet in Spring Game, 27-21

The teams combined for more than 900 yards during Saturday’s Florida State spring game as the Gold squad topped the Garnet, 27-21.

James Blackman led the Gold team with 415 yards passing and threw touchdown passes to Tamorrion Terry, Jordan Young and an 80-yard touchdown strike to Warren Thompson. Although he didn’t find the end zone, Keyshawn Helton led all receivers with 157 yards receiving.

Neither team managed to run for more than three yards per carry, but Cam Akers scored two of the three touchdowns for the Garnet squad. Teammate Khalan Laborn finished with 55 yards rushing on 12 carries to lead all rushers.

Louisville transfer Jordan Travis put up nice numbers for the Garnet team on Saturday, going 22-for-28 with 241 yards passing. D.J. Matthews finished with 122 yards receiving on 10 catches to lead the Garnet.

Defensively, Amari Gainer led the Gold team with 13 tackles. Marvin Wilson added two sacks while defensive end Joshua Kaindoh notched a sack and a forced fumble. For the Garnet, early enrollee Jaleel McRae led his team with 11 tackles, including 0.5 stops for loss. Robert Cooper had 1.5 tackles for loss.
