One of the worst losses in Florida State history took place on Saturday as the Seminoles were ran through by No. 2 Clemson, 59-10. After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers turned the contest in an absolute rout.
With the loss, FSU falls to 4-4 on the season and will need to win two of its final four to become bowl-eligible. Despite an extremely disappointing effort, editor Mike Ferguson and lead writer Clint Eiland hand out game balls to the top performers for the Seminoles.
Offense
Unanimous Game Ball: Keyshawn Helton, WR
Despite not being an intricate part of the initial game plan, Florida State freshman wide receiver Keyshawn Helton led the Seminoles in yards from scrimmage and scored their only touchdown. Helton caught three passes for 100 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown on a pass from James Blackman with 4:43 to play.
Defense
Mike: A.J. Lytton, CB
On a day where Florida State didn’t have much fight after the first quarter, freshman cornerback A.J. Lytton wasn’t going to quit. Lytton had two tackles and was responsible for forcing the only Clemson turnover with an interception of Chase Brice in the end zone in the fourth quarter.
Clint: Demarcus Christmas, DT
In what will be his final contest against Clemson, FSU senior defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas was a force early on Saturday and one of the few Seminoles to not let up despite the blowout. Christmas finished tied for a team-high with seven tackles. Three were solo stops.
Special Teams
Unanimous Game Ball: Ricky Aguayo, K
On an absolutely horrendous special teams day for Florida State, junior kicker Ricky Aguayo did what was asked of him. Aguayo was 1-for-1 on both field goals and extra points. His 35-yard make broke up the shutout with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter.
