The Daily Nole — Oct. 24, 2018: FSU Women’s Hoops Picked Middle of Pack in ACC

Lead Story

After establishing itself as a power in the ACC, Florida State women’s basketball is expected to take a step back during the 2018-19 season. On Tuesday, the Seminoles were picked to finish seventh in the conference by the media and eighth by the coaches.

FSU loses its top three scorers in Shakayla Thomas, Imani Wright and A.J. Alix, who led the team in assists, as well and four of its top five scorers. FSU also loses leading rebounder Chatrice White. The Seminoles finished 26-7 last season before being ousted by Buffalo in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Reigning national champion Notre Dame was picked to win the conference by 59 of 62 media members and all 15 coaches, followed by Louisville, Syracuse and NC State. FSU redshirt junior forward Kiah Gillespie made the conference’s Newcomer watch list. FSU opens the season against Troy on Nov. 6.

FSU men’s tennis wrapped up the ITA Regional Championships on Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU volleyball will be at Miami on Wednesday night. The match begins at 6:30 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

FSU soccer’s Deyna Castellanos was named United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week.

FSU soccer’s Deyna Castellanos was named ACC Player of the Week. Senior defender Natalia Kuikka was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

The preseason All-ACC men’s basketball team and projected standings will be unveiled.
