For the second week in a row, a second-year Florida State player was honored by the ACC.

Sophomore wide receiver D.J. Matthews was named the ACC Specialist of the Week for his efforts in Saturday’s 28-27 loss to Miami. The shifty wideout finished with four punt returns for 145 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown return early in the third quarter that gave the Seminoles a 27-7 lead.

Matthews joins redshirt freshman linebacker DeCalon Brooks, who was ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week last week, as the only FSU players to earn weekly recognition from the conference. The touchdown return for Matthews was the first for FSU since Jesus “Bobo” Wilson housed a punt for a score against Charleston Southern in the 2016 home opener.

With the big day, Matthews now leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally in punt return average. The only player with multiple punt returns for scores is Wake Forest’s Greg Dortch, who the Seminoles will face at home in two weeks.
