There are two days left until Florida State football starts the 2018 season. As part of the offseason, we’re highlighting players, games, and specific moments from FSU football history.

On Friday, it was Florida State’s three national championships.

Today, it’s Florida State’s 2015 victory at Florida in which the Seminoles held their rival to two points — the lowest for Florida in the history of the rivalry. FSU emerged victorious, 27-2.

No. 10 Florida entered its Senior Day contest in 2015 against No. 14 FSU with a better record, higher ranking and home-field advantage. By the time the night was over in Gainesville however, it was no secret that the Seminoles still reigned supreme in the Sunshine State.

After a scoreless first quarter, FSU managed to draw first blood on a 45-yard field goal by Roberto Aguayo. On the ensuing drive, FSU made its deepest march to that point, but had a decision to make on 4th-and-goal from the Florida 1-yard-line.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher decided to leave Aguayo on the sideline and call a play-action pass. Initially, Florida had the play covered, forcing quarterback Sean Maguire to roll to his right before firing the ball through a tight window and into the arms of tight end Jeremy Kerr for a touchdown and his only career catch.

FSU led 10-0 at halftime and extended that lead to 13-0 on a 51-yard make by Aguayo early in the third quarter. For the third straight trip to Gainesville, Florida State took a shutout into the fourth quarter, but Florida was able to get on the board with a safety as Maguire was stripped inside his own 20. The ball was muffed by several players before Maguire ultimately fell on it in his own end zone with under nine minutes to play.

As Florida wore down, FSU running back Dalvin Cook got stronger, scoring on touchdown runs of 15 and 29 yards over the game’s final 6:17. Cook would finish the night with 183 yards rushing as Florida State made it three straight over the Gators and for the first time ever, three straight in Gainesville.

The FSU defense came through with five sacks and held Florida to just 262 yards of offense on 3.3 yards per play. Defensive end DeMarcus Walker finished with 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and a blocked field goal in the victory. It marked the first time that the Gators had gone without a touchdown against their rivals since 1977.
