There are 12 days left until Florida State football starts the 2018 season. As part of the offseason, we’re highlighting players, games, and specific moments from FSU football history.

On Tuesday, it was former defensive end Bjoern Werner and his 13 sacks during an All-American season of 2012.

Today, it’s former wide receiver Justin Motlow and his 12-yard touchdown catch against Delaware State last season that made history.

The Senior Day contest on Nov. 18, 2017 against a lowly FCS program went as expected. The Seminoles won convincingly 77-6 for their second largest margin of victory ever.

Nine different Seminoles scored touchdowns in the win, but it would be the 10th total score for FSU that would be most significant. With less than two minutes gone by in the fourth quarter, FSU backup quarterback J.J. Cosentino fired a pass to walk-on wide receiver Justin Motlow for a diving 12-yard touchdown.

The score followed by the extra point extended the lead to 70-6, but the significance of the touchdown was much greater. Motlow is a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and with his scoring grab, became the first-ever Seminole to score a touchdown for the Seminoles.

Motlow recorded just three catches for 25 yards during his FSU career, but his diving catch will forever live in FSU lore. Over more than 70 years of football, there have been plenty of touchdowns by the Seminoles, but only one by a member of the Seminole Tribe.
