4-star linebacker Kalen DeLoach publicly announced his commitment to Florida State on Monday afternoon.

The linebacker situation at Florida State might be the most pressing of all position groups. The Seminoles have very little proven talent and are looking for at least two prospects that can come in and compete early. They already have a commitment from Jaleel McRae, but his injury history means that the Seminoles would still benefit from taking a couple more linebackers.

Enter DeLoach. He’s a 4-star linebacker from Savannah, Georgia who was offered by Florida State in mid February. He made his first visit to Tallahassee on March 26, and returned on June 10. After that June visit, DeLoach began to lean towards the Seminoles over teams like Michigan, South Carolina, and Auburn. The recent Saturday Night Live recruiting event sealed the deal and convinced him to grab a spot in the 2019 class.

DeLoach is currently more of an outside linebacker, given his official measurements of 6-foot and 206 pounds. But his skill set could easily translate to inside linebacker once he gets into a collegiate training program. He’s a sure-fire tackler who shows great closing speed and sound technique. Florida State’s 4-2-5 system means DeLoach will be playing that inside linebacker position.

Florida State had somewhat struggled to gain commitments from its linebacker targets earlier in the recruiting process. DeLoach’s announcement goes a long way into resolving the issue and shoring up a weaker part of the defense.

DeLoach is ranked as the 17th best outside linebacker prospect and 283rd overall prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. His commitment brings the Seminoles class to ninth nationally and second in the ACC.
