Florida State right-handed pitcher C.J. Van Eyk didn’t make Team USA’s 26-man roster, so he’ll have to settle for a consolation prize.

On Thursday, Van Eyk was named a Freshman All-American by D1Baseball.com. Van Eyk previously earned that distinction from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

As a freshman last season, Van Eyk compiled a perfect 7-0 record to go with a 2.86 ERA. Van Eyk was used primarily as a reliever in his 19 appearances, which included five starts.

With a wicked curveball, Van Eyk struck out 71 opposing batters in 56 2/3 innings. Opponents hit just .208 off the righty. Van Eyk was second on the team behind fellow freshman Jonah Scolaro with two saves.

Van Eyk was on the publication’s second team. To view the complete team, click here.
