The Daily Nole — May 10, 2018: FSU Softball Opens ACC Tourney with Louisville

No. 1 seed Florida State softball opens the ACC Tournament on Thursday and the opponent will be eighth-seeded Louisville.

The Cardinals advanced from the first round to Thursday’s quarterfinal with a 2-1 win over ninth-seeded Syracuse on Wednesday. Catcher Jenna Jordan drove in one of the two runs for Louisville.

FSU will begin a quest for a fifth straight ACC Tournament title. The Seminoles went 44-10 this season and swept Louisville over three games when the teams met in Tallahassee from April 21-23.

The winner will face either fourth-seeded Boston College or fifth-seeded Notre Dame. The contest begins at 11 a.m. EST on Raycom Sports Network.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf advanced to the NCAA Championships with a second-place finish in the Tallahassee Regional on Wednesday. FSU baseball defeated Jacksonville at Dick Howser Stadium, 10-4.

On the Agenda

In addition to FSU softball, FSU track and field opens the ACC Outdoor Championships on Thursday.

FSU head coach Mike Martin expects outfielder J.C. Flowers and pitcher Will Zirzow to return from injury this weekend against Mount St. Mary’s.

FSU softball opened the ACC Tournament with a 7-4 win over Louisville on Thursday.
