The Daily Nole — Jan. 8, 2018: FSU Women Suffer First ACC Loss

Lead Story

After a couple of routs to begin conference play, Florida State’s women’s basketball team suffered its first ACC setback on Sunday.

The Seminoles trailed by as many as 13 in the first quarter, but rallied to take a 1-point lead into the fourth quarter at Syracuse on Sunday. The Orange shot 70 percent in the final quarter and outscored FSU 26-18 to walk away with a 76-69 win.

Miranda Drummond was 14-for-20 from the field and 8-for-13 from deep en route to scoring a career-high 38 points in the win for Syracuse. Tiana Mangakahia, the ACC’s assist leader, dished out 13 assists.

Imani Wright scored 20 points to lead FSU, but on just 7 of 21 shooting. A.J. Alix and Shakayla Thomas each added 12 points in the loss. At 14-2 and 2-1 in ACC, FSU will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts Miami.

Between the Lines

In addition to the women, FSU men’s basketball fell at Miami on Sunday night, 80-74.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s tennis will host Texas Tech on Monday.

Miami wide receivers coach Ron Dugans reportedly will not take over the same job at FSU.
