Florida State will be down another defensive standout in the Independence Bowl against Southern Mississippi.

According to a report from Warchant, junior defensive end Josh Sweat will skip the bowl and enter the 2018 NFL Draft. Once the top high school player in the country, Sweat had a solid year for the Seminoles in 2017, recording 56 tackles, including team-highs of 12.5 for loss and 5.5 sacks.

Sweat’s numbers were never eye-popping, but from the first day, the Virginia native was a mainstay in the FSU lineup. Sweat has been expected to forego his senior year, but isn’t thought to be a first round pick.

Sweat joins redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James as players to declare early for the draft. The Seminoles will look to complete a 41st consecutive winning season with a victory in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 27.
