Louisiana-Monroe at FSU: Good Times, Bad Times

FSU athletics

This week’s contest for Florida State has almost become an afterthought with all the news about head coach Jimbo Fisher possibly bolting for Texas A&M. Still, FSU has a rescheduled game with Louisiana-Monroe.

The contest was originally slated for Sept. 9, but canceled because of Hurricane Irma and later rescheduled. At 5-6, FSU needs a victory to become bowl-eligible for a 36th straight year. The Warhawks are 4-7 and Saturday’s contest will be their last of the year. Although the history is brief, it’s our weekly duty to bring you up to speed on the good times and the bad in FSU’s history with Louisiana-Monroe:

All-Time Series: FSU leads 1-0
Good Times: Florida State shut out Louisiana-Monroe in the only prior meeting between the schools. In the 2011 opener on Sept. 3, the Seminoles blanked Louisiana-Monroe, 34-0. E.J. Manuel passed for 252 yards and a pair of scores for FSU while Rashad Greene, who would go on to become the school’s all-time leading receiver, scored his first career touchdown. Running back Devonta Freeman, now a Pro Bowl back with the Atlanta Falcons, also scored his first career rushing touchdown in the win. Linebacker Vince Williams recorded a team-high seven tackles and a sack while Lamarcus Joyner came away with an interception for an Florida State defense that held the Warhawks to just 191 yards of offense.

Bad Times: There are no bad times in FSU’s history with Louisiana-Monroe. FSU has also never lost to a school from the Sun Belt, although Troy did give the Seminoles a scare in 2006.

NOTE: This article was originally posted on Sept. 7, but the game was canceled and rescheduled. It has been updated with new information.
