Bowl Projections: No Clear Consensus for FSU

Mitch White/FSU athletics

Florida State will need to win its final three games to become bowl-eligible and that begins on Saturday with Delaware State. FSU will also face Florida and Louisiana-Monroe to close the season.

Despite just a 3-6 record, almost all publications have the Seminoles currently slotted for a bowl game. Here’s where experts have them playing:

Projections
Yahoo Sports, Nov. 16:
Birmingham Bowl vs. Navy (Dec. 23)

CBS Sports, Nov. 13: Independence Bowl vs. Georgia State (Dec. 27)

Sports Illustrated, Nov. 12: Independence Bowl vs. UAB (Dec. 27)

ESPN, Nov. 12: Pinstripe Bowl vs. Purdue (Dec. 27, David Hale); Military Bowl vs. Navy (Dec. 28, Kyle Bonagura)

Sporting News, Nov. 15: Camping World Bowl vs. West Virginia (Dec. 28)

USA Today, Nov. 14: Music City Bowl vs. Kentucky (Dec. 29)

SB Nation, Nov. 13: TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Missouri (Dec. 30)

Summary
Across the eight projections, only one team comes up twice and only one bowl comes up twice. Both Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports and ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura have the Seminoles facing Navy for just the second time ever. FSU defeated Navy 38-6 in 1978. Bonagura has FSU and Navy heading to the Birmingham Bowl and Bromberg has it bound for the Independence Bowl.

Sports Illustrated’s Eric Single and CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm both have FSU bound for the Independence Bowl, but Single has it set to face UAB. It would be the first meeting between the Seminoles and Blazers since 2007 when FSU won, 34-24. Palm has Florida State taking on Georgia State for the first time ever.

ESPN’s David Hale has FSU taking on Purdue in the Pinstripe Bowl. Purdue is one of six Big Ten schools that the Seminoles have never played.

Bill Bender of the Sporting News sends FSU in Orlando to take on West Virginia. The Seminoles defeated the Mountaineers in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville in both 2004 and 2009.

SB Nation’s Jason Kirk has FSU headed to Jacksonville this year to face Missouri in the TaxSlayer Bowl. The Tigers are one of three current SEC teams that the Seminoles have never played.

USA Today’s Erick Smith has FSU headed to the Music City Bowl to take on Kentucky. The Wildcats beat FSU in that game to close the 2007 season, 35-28.
