Wednesday night brought very positive news for Florida State fans that were concerned about the Matthew Thomas situation. Multiple sites are now reporting that Thomas was cleared to practice Wednesday and will be available for the opener against Alabama on Saturday.

Recent news around Thomas’ eligibility had been swirling for days. Head coach Jimbo Fisher remarked on Monday that he expected the senior linebacker to return to practice that afternoon. However, Thomas was not seen leaving with his teammates, and on Tuesday, he was spotted entering practice with no pads on.

In fact, earlier Wednesday afternoon, Fisher seemed less than enthusiastic about the situation. He said “I don’t know” when asked about it and seemed genuinely unsure. The confirmation must’ve come immediately after the ACC Coaches Teleconference some time in the afternoon.

Thomas’ impact cannot be understated. He is the best linebacker on the team and gives the defense more versatility in their coverages. With 2017 being his final year of eligibility, Thomas hopes to improve his draft stock and live up to the 5-star billing he once had as a recruit.
