FSU’s Holton Gets ACC Weekly Honors

For the fourth time this season, Florida State starter Tyler Holton was named ACC Pitcher of the Week and this time came after perhaps his best performance of the year.

In Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Wake Forest, Holton needed 124 pitches to throw a complete game shutout. Holton allowed just four hits without walking a batter while striking out nine.

For the year, Holton has been by far FSU’s most dependable starter. Holton is 7-2 on the year with a 2.69 ERA and has struck out 98 batters in 80 1/3 innings this season.

Recently, Holton has taken on a new role and that’s as the Seminoles’ everyday right fielder — at least when he’s not pitching. Holton was given that assignment once Rhett Aplin went down with a season-ending foot injury and has hit .421 with a pair of homers in five starts in the field.

Holton is the first FSU pitcher to win Pitcher of the Week honors four times in one season. He is expected to make his final start of the regular season on the mound against Louisville this week. The 3-game series gets underway on Thursday.
