Florida State softball beat the North Carolina Tar Heels 4-3 on Saturday afternoon to win its 15th ACC Tournament championship.

Much of the game was a pitching duel, with neither team putting a runner on base until the third inning. From there, Florida State’s hitting took over the game and gave the Seminoles a much-needed cushion.

Jessica Warren sparked the FSU offense with a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 1-0. The Seminoles added another when Dani Morgan notched an RBI triple, putting the score at 2-0 heading into the fifth inning. North Carolina was unable to get anything going and the teams headed to the sixth. Alex Powers then joined in on the action with a 2-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to double the lead.

North Carolina gave FSU a scare in the top of the seventh inning after putting two runners on base with two outs. Katelyn Shifflett hit a three-run homer off of Jessica Burroughs, who had not given up a run all day. With the score at 4-3, Florida State put in Meghan King to try and close out the game. She struck out the next Tar Heel batter and secured the fourth straight ACC championship for the Seminoles.

The Tar Heels were the first team to score against Florida State in the tournament. With the win, FSU finished 27-0 against ACC teams on the season. The Seminoles now wait to see which team will travel to Tallahassee for the regional next weekend.

Dani Morgan was named MVP of the tournament. Four other Seminoles were named to the All-Tournament team: Anna Shelnutt, Carsyn Gordon, Jessica Burroughs, and Meghan King.
