With only five scholarship players returning at wide receiver, Florida State looks to be getting help soon in the form of a big body. Tamorrion Terry, a 3-star recruit* from Turner County High School in Georgia, joins 4-star Jacksonville product D.J. Matthews as members of FSU’s 2017 class.

Terry at 6-4 and 210 pounds is a big, physical receiver who was a late riser in the recruiting process. Terry believes that he can help FSU right away, but the question surrounding Terry has been whether or not he would qualify. The big target said that won’t be a problem.

“I just got my test scores back and they went up 130 points and my GPA, it went up pretty high,” he said. “I’m pretty much good now.”

Terry will join a big corps of receivers that includes Auden Tate (6-5), George Campbell (6-4) and Keith Gavin (6-3). Though none of the three got extended time in the spring game, Terry watched the intrasquad contest and feels that he fits well.

“I liked how the receivers ran their routes,” he said. “Right now, it’s just to stay focused in school and staying focused on my grades and keep doing what I’m doing right now and get to Florida State. I know I can come up there and start if I just do what I got to do. I just got to come up and work hard and I’ll fit in real good with them.”

Though a big target, Terry had no problem stretching the field in high school. Terry showed good speed, physicality and high-pointed the ball well, but many felt that he was still a bit of the raw side. Terry admitted that there are areas where he can improve.

“I can improve on coming off the ball hard and my routes,” he said. “I can improve on high-pointing the ball better, too.”

Going up and getting the ball might be something that Terry does well, but he said that’s not his only strength. After the catch, Terry said he’s still a threat to make guys miss and make big plays. The two receivers that Terry idolizes are former FSU star Kelvin Benjamin, who is now with the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers’ All-Pro, Antonio Brown.

“I like both of those guys,” he said. “I love going up against them DBs. One thing about me is I’m going to make them work hard for it.”

Terry plans on majoring in business at Florida State. Aside from the physical tools he possesses, Terry said he’s a hard worker and a team-first player.

“You got to work hard and it starts in the weight room,” he said. “I’m a good kid. I don’t get in trouble. I like to be around positive guys and not negative guys. I’m going to go hard every day at practice. Anything that you need me to do, I’m going to do it.”

Serving as his inspiration along the way have been his high school coaches. Terry said they’ve pushed him to work hard and give his best effort.

“My head coach, Coach (Ben) Simmons, my wide receivers coach, Coach (Cory) Brown, they’ve been pushing me for a long time,” Terry said. “At practice, they tell me to go hard every play.”

As far as goals are concerned, Terry’s aren’t much different than any other recruit. He wants to contribute and help his team win, but education is important as well.

“I’m going to try to be a 3-year starter and yeah, I’m going to get my degree,” Terry said. “I’m trying to get there and get my education and help the team out and help them win a championship.”

NOTE: During our interview with Terry, we asked him if the test results and GPA spike meant that he had qualified. He responded: “Yes, sir”.
