Seminoles Sweep Grizzlies With 14-6 Win

Florida State finished the sweep of the Oakland Golden Grizzlies with a 14-6 victory on Sunday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles began the fireworks in the second inning and never looked back, cruising to an easy win on the backs of productive hitting.

The Good: FSU batting was productive for the third straight game in a row. In fact, this was the first time the Seminoles scored double digit runs in each game of a 3-game series since doing so against Hofstra in 2010. On the day, Florida State’s lineup tallied 13 hits and 14 runs, with three different batters getting more than one hit. The 12 RBIs certainly helped as well. The Seminoles scored multiple runs in four different innings.

The Bad: Oddly enough, FSU fielding was not especially good on Sunday. The Seminoles committed three errors and finished with the lower fielding percentage of the two teams. Two of those errors actually led to Oakland runs. One was committed by catcher Cal Raleigh on a failed throw to second base. The other was by Dylan Busby on a throw from third base to first.

The Ugly: Oakland pitching suffered its worst game of the series with the Sunday afternoon game. The Golden Grizzlies tried out three different pitchers, and none of them had good outings. Each gave up at least two earned runs and they combined for only four total strikeouts. The Golden Grizzlies had 10 hits from their bats but that was not enough to make up for the pitching.

Studs of the Game: Quincy Nieporte smacked a home run and totaled two hits with three RBIs. Tyler Daughtry was also impressive from the plate with three hits, runs, and RBIs. Busby gets a mention for three hits and four runs himself.

Duds of the Game: Oakland starting pitcher Nick Parr was in for three innings and gave up seven earned runs on six hits. Tyler Pagano wasn’t much help on the offensive side, with no hits in five at-bats.

Extra Innings: Is Chick-Fil-A even making money with some of these deals offered at FSU games? Weekends like these where FSU scores double-digit runs three days in a row would seem to be taxing. But I’m not a restaurant manager, so what do I know.
